Avianca renews Iberia Maintenance contract

Iberia Maintenance have signed an agreement with Avianca to maintain their CFM56-5B engines.

For the next 61 months Iberia will maintain the LRU (line replacement unit) parts of the CFM56-5B engines powering the Colombian airline’s Airbus A318 and A319 aircraft. LRUs are easily-replaced modular units.

Iberia Maintenance carries out all maintenance of aircraft, engines and aircraft parts for the airline’s own aircraft and has about a hundred outside customers around the word. It is the world’s ninth-largest aircraft maintenance company and Spain’s largest by revenues and staff, as well as in repairs, technology, and aircraft modification. In 2011 it inspected and repaired a total of some 200 engines and 66,000 parts.

Avianca was the first airline founded in Latin America and the second in the world, as “Aerovías del Continente Americano S.A.,” following the merger of SCADTA and SACO in Colombia in 1940.
